Lakemere Environmental Services who specialise in cleaning Domestic and Commercial wheeled bins as well as all types of exterior cleaning, donated one of their vans and employees to deliver toys to disadvantaged children across Lancashire when the charity had an unexpected drop of presents after Christmas.
David Travis, Managing Director of Lakemere heard the request for a vehicle and operative whilst listening to Rock FM. “I thought this was a great, hand’s on way of helping a local charity” said Mr Travis, “and something Lakemere could get involved in as our vehicles are quieter at this time of year.”
Rock FM’s Cash for Kids annual toy appeal collects thousands of toys donated by companies and the public from designated shops and stores from November. All the toys are then sorted and delivered to under privileged children within the Rock FM area before Christmas.
Clare Chadwick, an organiser of the Rock FM Cash for Kids appeal said “£29,000 worth of toys were donated this year and 1,900 children have benefited. We would not be able to operate the appeal with out local companies helping us like this as it would mean us having to hire vehicles and staff to collect and deliver the toys at a cost every year. We were so grateful to Lakemere for helping us after Christmas when normally all the toys have long gone out, they really did clean up!”
Michael Ward who is an employee of Lakemere Environmental Services was thrilled to be asked to deliver the toys. “It is wonderful to see the excitement and delight on the children’s faces when they receive the toys,” said Michael “I am pleased I could be part of such a worthwhile cause.”
